Bulgarian Concert Evenings in New York

Now in its fourth season, Bulgarian Concert Evenings in New York is the only concert series in the United States devoted exclusively to the presentation of classical musicians and composers from Bulgaria and their collaboration with artists of international acclaim. The series was established in the fall of 2oo5 by an all-volunteer group of musicians from Bulgaria who oversee all artistic and administrative aspects. Most concerts are presented free of charge and open to the public on select Wednesdays of each month at the Bulgarian Consulate General in New York. Funding for the artists is provided by individual contributors from the Bulgarian and international community.
Season 2oo8/2oo9 features a number of exciting young artists making their series debuts, such as classical guitarist Vilian Ivantchev, violinist Sabina Torosjan, mezzo-soprano Rachel Calloway, pianists Anna Petrova and Magdalena Dushkina. Also featured are musicians of international acclaim: harpsichordist Kenneth Cooper, cellist Wolfram Koessel, clarinetist Ilian Iliev, violinist
Joanna Maurer and cellist Alberto Parrini. The series begins with an Opening Night Gala at Carnegie’s Weill Recital Hall and closes with a concert featuring winners of the annual “Music and the Earth” competition, held each spring in Sofia, Bulgaria.
